dogs available to adopt through our RESCUE program

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ADOPTION PROCESS:

APPLICATION FORMS:

Completing a rescue dog application form isn’t just paperwork—it’s your first step towards giving a dog a second chance. We take this process seriously because every detail helps us make the right match for our dogs and adopters. That’s why we ask for everything upfront: full names, contact emails, and thorough references.

When even one piece is missing, we can’t move your application forward. It’s not about red tape—it’s about doing right by our dogs. We go the extra mile to make sure every adoption is a success, and we count on you to do the same by providing all the information we need right from the start.

OUR CONTRACT & ADOPTION FEES:

At Viz Whizz Dogs Rescue, our commitment to the well-being of our dogs doesn’t end when they leave our care—it’s a lifelong promise.

Every family that adopts from us enters into a Viz Whizz Dog Contract, designed to ensure that our dogs are always safe, healthy, and supported.

The contract guarantees lifetime support for every dog we place, and if circumstances change, we’ll always take our dogs back—no questions asked. Contracts and fees needs to be paid at time of pick up.

SURRENDERED DOGS:

At the time of surrender, all Viz Whizz dogs are up to date on key vaccinations. We also ensure they are heartworm negative, so you know you’re welcoming a healthy companion into your home.

This doesnt mean that they may not need an updated vaccine for your area. We ensure that every dog over the age of two is spayed or neutered, unless a veterinarian determines there’s a medical reason not to.

It’s all part of our promise to put our dogs’ welfare first, every step of the way.

Your transport costs do not waiver our fees. We are a small non-profit with very limited funding.

  • A brown dog with floppy ears and a white patch on its chest is outdoors on grass and dirt, and lying on a couch inside with its head resting on a cushion.

    Meet kiwi - Alexandria, Virginia

Vizsla, Female, 6 Years Old, 40 lbs, uptodate on vaccines. Breeder aware.

Kiwi is a spirited, athletic Vizsla who loves exploring the outdoors, especially on off-leash hikes and walks (she’s E-collar trained and thrives with freedom). She’s crazy about playing ball, swimming, and making friends with other dogs. At home, she’ll curl up in her crate at night, is fully housebroken, and has perfect leash manners. Kiwi lives with a family and another Vizsla.

Daily Life & Preferences: Sleeps in her crate, and is not destructive when left alone—though she will poke around for snacks if she can! Kiwi’s used to being on furniture and will head to her dog bed or a designated “place” when asked.

She’s food-motivated and responds best to commands wearing her E-collar. “Out” means drop/give/leave it, and she knows “place” for going to her spot.

Horses around with other dogs and socializes well with her canine companion.

Has received regular care: microchipped, spayed, on heartworm prevention, nails dremeled (albeit reluctantly), and gets daily allergy eye drops plus Omega-3 supplements.

Kiwi’s Challenges: Please Read Carefully. Kiwi has a history of multiple bites and snapping incidents over the years. No stitches needed but have happened in a variety of situations when startled or feeling protective.

She is especially anxious around new people and children she doesn’t know. Her protective streak can make her un-predictable in unfamiliar situations. Kiwi is a resource guarder, but not toys or food - her guarding is most pronounced when she feels especially close to a person; sometimes she’ll snap if someone approaches her while she’s sitting with that person. While she’s usually good with other dogs, she has occasionally been reactive with certain dogs at specific times.

Kiwi hates vet visits to the point of needing medication and a muzzle. Nail trims and ear cleaning are difficult for her. She struggles with separation anxiety, so she’ll need a home ready to help her adjust, with patience and structure.

Ideal Home: Kiwi is wonderfully loyal and loves her people fiercely. She needs an experienced, adults-only home (no young kids) committed to understanding her triggers and managing her environment. Consistency, leadership, and clear boundaries will help her feel safe. She does best when her world is predictable and her routines are kept.

Kiwi is currently living with kids (ages 15, 12, and 9) and another Vizsla, and gets along well with her dog sibling. Still, because of her bite history, future adopters will need to set her up for success.

If you have a soft spot for high-energy, sensitive dogs and understand the unique needs of resource guarders, Kiwi could be a wonderful (with structure) addition to your home. Her loyalty runs deep; she just needs the right match to help her feel secure.

  • A Vizsla dog with floppy ears, standing outdoors on rocky ground, looking at the camera.

    Meet Sampson - Vail, arizona

Currently doing Board & Train this 5.5-year-old male Vizsla Location Vail, Arizona needs a second chance.

Samson’s a classic, loving Vizsla personality: loyal, goofy, enthusiastic, and playful. He’s about 65 lbs, born May 2020, and he’s always happiest sticking close to his people—curling up beside you, hanging out on the bed or sofa, or bouncing along on outdoor adventures. He’s e-collar trained and loves exploring off-leash in safe areas, but he’s also great on a leash with a little structure and the right tools (he does well with a figure 8 lead).

He’s housebroken and crate trained, and he knows all the basics: sit, stay, wait, come, lay down, paw, off, leave it, and more. Samson loves car rides, playing ball, swimming, and just about anything outdoors. He enjoys meeting people and is gentle with adults who respect his boundaries. No children and needs ro be the only dog.

We want to be honest—Samson has some quirks. He has a history of resource guarding, especially around high-value things like food, bones, toys, his crate, and sometimes his favorite person. This behavior has led to three bite incidents in his past (only one required minor first aid), but a behaviorist who’s worked with him says he has good bite inhibition and is considered a low-level bite risk (Dunbar scale 1-2). Out and about, he can sometimes be reactive to other dogs (especially if approached on leash by an off-leash dog), but he’s playful with well-matched canine friends introduced the right way.

Samson is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and gets monthly heartworm prevention. He takes a daily probiotic, Prozac (for resource guarding and anxiety), and sometimes Apoquel for seasonal allergies.

He’s a champ with baths and tolerates grooming, though nail trims aren’t his favorite and he’s sensitive about his paws. He eats from a slow feeder so he doesn’t gulp too fast.

Samson is all heart: he’s silly, smart, eager to please, and devoted to those he loves. We need a home with experienced adopters—ideally familiar with Vizslas or working breeds, and without small children and dogs. With patience, structure, and consistency, Samson has the potential to put most of his guarding behind him in the right home.

If you’re looking for a loyal adventure buddy who brings endless energy and joy, Samson just might be your match.

  • A Vizsla dog sitting indoors on a patterned rug, looking directly at the camera. The dog wears a beige collar with dog tags hanging from it.

    Meet Duke, Round Rock, Texas

Duke is a 4-year-old Vizsla, neutered and UTD on vaccines. He is incredibly affectionate, loving, cuddly and adores humans and dogs alike. He has been with a new family since January, but has unexpectedly bitten them a few times. His family consulted our behaviorist and implemented clear rules for him several months ago (mainly a new rule where he can’t be on the owners bed bc he thinks he owns it) and he has done really well with his training and new boundaries. Unfortunately, he has unintentionally hurt their small children multiple times while playing too rough, grabbing human food from them and nipping at them. He needs should a home without young children.

Duke is an amazing dog who still has his silly puppy spirit. He has loved being on his family’s farm and has amazing recall. He is always ready for a long run, a bike ride or a nap as long as he is with his people or other dogs. He will thrive in a home where someone is around frequently, making him a great fit for families who work from home or have a flexible schedule.

If you're looking for a loving, playful Velcro boy, Duke is your guy. Training and patience needed. No children but he’d love a fast dog companion and active humans!

Change a life. adopt a dog.

  • A Vizsla dog with light hazel eyes wearing a black collar, shown from above in an indoor and outdoor setting.

    Meet Remy - Austin, Texas

Resource Guards. A stunning 3-year-old male Vizsla (60lbs), neutered, with boundless energy and a heart full of potential. Remy has brought a lot of joy and adventure to his current family, but he’s now looking for a new beginning with someone who can give him the structure and space he needs to thrive.

Remy is an active dog who loves exploring nature trails and playing with his canine friends. He’s happiest when he’s outside, running, and socializing. While Remy has a playful spirit, he has recently started to show some resource guarding around food, the couch, and the bed. Because of this, he’s had a few incidents with nipping and would benefit from an experienced adopter who can help him work through these behaviors with patience and positive reinforcement.

Remy would do best in a home with a yard to run in and possibly another dog to keep him company. He’s not suited to apartment living, and he needs someone who’s ready to help him grow into his best self. If you have the experience and the heart to help Remy reach his full potential, he could be the perfect addition to your family.

If you’re interested in meeting Remy and learning more about our adoption program, please reach out. He’s ready for his next adventure—and maybe a new best friend. No children, experienced home with resource guarding experienced needed.

  • A collage of three photos of a vizslas with long ears and a sleek coat, sitting indoors and on a sofa, with a neutral background.

Meet Willie - Lago Vista, Texas

He is a male purebred Vizsla, 5 years old, 69lbs - neutered, living with his family in Lago Vista, TX, up to date on vaccines.

Like most Vizslas, Willie lights up when his people get home—he’s bursting with energy, often bouncing and showing off just how happy he is to see you. Once he settles down, Willie just wants you to pet him and soak up your attention. He’s trainable, sits on command, comes when called, and is comfortable on a collar and leash. Willie is fully housebroken, crate trained, and has no problem making himself comfortable on furniture.

Willie’s family deeply loves him, but their home has proven to be a challenging environment for him. He struggles with resource guarding around food and toys, and can get reactive on leash. Over the past months, Willie has bitten a few members of his family—nipping wife and son (neither case broke the skin), and most recently biting his daughter, which required a couple stitches. Notably, these incidents all happened in situations where he would usually growl first, offering a clear warning. It was only after those warnings went unheeded or he felt overwhelmed that he escalated to biting.

Willie’s owners will provide full veterinary records. They’re committed to seeing him thrive and know he’ll do best in a home with experienced handlers, clear structure, and steady support that understands resource guarding wirh no young children.

Willie needs a fresh start, one where his boundaries are respected and he has the chance to become the wonderful companion he’s capable of being.

  • A happy brown dog with floppy ears and a pink tongue, standing outdoors on grass among other dogs.

    Meet Dublin - Nashville, Tennessee

He has a big heart and even bigger energy reserves. Weighing in at 62 lbs and neutered. Specials home needed, he prefers the ladies.

Dublin’s world is all about action: whether he’s on or off leash, he’s ready to go—especially if there’s a ball involved. He’s great with other dogs, and even the vet. Thunderstorms? Not a problem.

He’s housebroken, used to wearing his collar and leash, and is crate trained. But don’t disturb him. He does pull on the leash, but he knows the basics like “heel.” Just be prepared—if left home alone too long, Dublin’s smarts and extra energy can get him into a bit of mischief. He’s allowed on the furniture, gulps his food, and sometimes jumps up to say hi.

Dublin is very friendly and eager to learn. He knows commands like sit, down, wait, leave it, drop it, go pee-pee, off, and kennel. But he does have his quirks—he resource guards his food and toys, and has growled and snapped when frustrated, especially around the kennel. l

He’s been well cared for—microchipped, on heartworm prevention and Dublin eats Victor large breed food but, just so you know, he’s not much of a hunter.

If you’re looking for a smart, trainable, and high-energy dog Dublin could be your perfect match—as long as you’re ready to keep him busy and loved.

Change a life. adopt a dog.

  • A joyful brown dog with floppy ears lying on a dark gray couch with its front legs stretched out and mouth open, showing teeth. The background features cushions and part of a textured wall.

    Meet Gus - Schertz, Texas

    A handsome 5-year-old male - Vizsla-mix with a true hunting spirit.

Gus is joining the Viz Whizz Dogs rescue program through no fault of his own—his natural instincts simply don’t mix with his family’s chickens, which are a critical part of their livelihood. It’s a tough situation, but everyone wants what’s best for Gus.

Gus has a huge heart when it comes to people. He’s loving and affectionate—always ready for a hug when he gets excited. He’s comfortable around adults, teens, and children, and is happiest when he’s running free or chasing a ball. Gus is calm and well-mannered inside the house, loves wearing his collar, and is crate trained. He’s housebroken, used to a leash, and enjoys relaxing on the furniture.

Gus is a very clever dog who loves a job to do—he excels at search games if you give him a challenge. He knows his basic commands (sit, stay, watch, fetch, drop, and stop) and is obedient. While he’s a loyal friend to humans, Gus prefers to be the only animal in the home and would do best in a pet-free environment where he can let his hunting instincts shine in a safe way.

He’s got a stubborn streak when it comes to clipping his nails (he’s not a fan of having his paws touched!) and likes his meals his way. He’s microchipped for safety and usually eats once a day, but also enjoys free feeding.

Gus is looking for a fresh start in a home where he can be the center of attention and have plenty of room to run. He’s sweet and loving with people, alert and protective when he senses a threat, but never acts out—just gives a gentle warning. He’s not at fault for ending up in rescue; he simply needs an environment better suited to his talents and energy.
